TaylorMade Rossa Corza Ghost Putter (Spy Pics)

TaylorMade Golf has unveiled Corza Ghost, a mallet specially designed to be easy to aim, and easy to use to roll the ball down your intended line. It was designed with significant input from putting instructor Dave Stockton.

“We started with the intention of designing a putter that’s easier to aim than any other,” said Bill Price, Rossa senior director. “That led us to experiment with a white finish. We consulted Dr. Steven A. Hitzeman, a professor at the Indiana School of Optometry and he felt we were onto something.”

“Corza Ghost’s white putterhead stands out so clearly against its background – the putting surface – because of the high contrast between white and green,” said Dr. Hitzeman, who is also a past president of the Indiana Optometric Association and a past chairman of the American Optometric Association’s Sports Vision Section. “That high contrast maximizes stimulation to the retina and highlights the head’s shape and features. The contrast would be lower if the putter were black or gray because these colors are closer in luminance to the color of the putting green than white. White creates the biggest difference in luminance, hence maximizing contrast and promoting focus. Many golfers use the leading edge of the putter as part of their alignment strategy (by positioning the edge perpendicular to the imagined target line). So, this high contrast for the leading edge gives the golfer the best chance of squaring up the putterface at address. Also, the lines on the top of the putter are painted black to achieve maximum contrast against the white surface of the putter. All of these high-contrast alignment elements give the golfer the best possible chance of accurately aiming the putter.”

To make it even easier to aim the Corza Ghost, Rossa engineers put three black alignment lines on the crown and a circular hole in the back of the putterhead, giving you different options to focus on to lock in your aim. “You can focus on the topline to aim Ghost,” said Bret Wahl, senior director of iron, wedge and putter development, “or you can focus on the alignment lines to visually connect the circular hole and your ball to lock in your aim. The point is that you’ve got options, each one highly effective.”

Because Corza Ghost’s putterhead is white, its three alignment options are easier to focus on and use, according to Dr. Hitzeman. “The Corza Ghost putter’s three alignment elements all have high contrast against their backgrounds. This high contrast maximizes stimulation to the retina, which helps the golfer to focus and use these aiming features effectively.”

“Hot Spots” are reflections of direct sunlight from the top of the putter into the golfer’s eye, and distract the player’s attention from the task at hand, which is to focus on the putterhead, the alignment system, and aiming the putter squarely down the target-line.

“When I started playing on tour in the 1960s, I used a silver mallet,” said Stockton. “Nicks and marks would form on the crown from normal use. They lit up when sunlight hit them at address, which I found extremely distracting, so much that I would have the crown sandblasted frequently to erase the hot spots. Because when you look down at the putter you don’t want anything disturbing your focus, which should be on the putterhead and the features of it that you use to align the putterface squarely down the target-line.”

The Corza Ghost’s white finish helps keep hot spots from standing out, allowing you to focus your attention on seeing the whole form of the putterhead and the alignment system, so you can aim without distraction.

Being a mallet, Corza Ghost’s high-MOI head is extremely stable on off-center hits and feels solid at impact. Its three alignment lines on the crown function not only to help aim the face accurately, but also to frame the ball in the middle of the face, which promotes solid, center-face contact on every stroke.

The putter also has the advantage of Rossa’s AGSI+ (Anti-skid Groove System Insert) Technology. AGSI+ features 14 polymer-filled grooves in the face that “hold” the ball briefly at impact to promote forwardspin for a smoother roll and more accurate results. The AGSI+ insert, in concert with the putterhead’s high MOI, also delivers superior consistency in forward roll on off-center hits, something not shown in tests of other popular putters.

Corza Ghost is scheduled to appear at retail starting in June, at an MSRP of $159. Two more Ghost models – a blade and a mid-mallet – also with white finish and black alignment lines, are scheduled to become available in July.

2010 Ping Anser Forged Irons (Spy Pics)

Pings first ever production forged iron is here! The 2010 Ping Anser Irons are expected to be released to the public next fall. They are made of 8620 carbon steel with a partial tungsten sole. They also have a larger then average sole width and offset. Really excited about these clubs. Can’t wait to hit them!

TaylorMade R9 SuperDeep (Spy Pics)

Behold, the TaylorMade R9 SuperDeep! Were extremely excited about this new driver. It’s the successor of the R9 510 TP and comes in a sweet black finish. At address the SuperDeep looks like a 410cc-420cc driver, when in fact it stands tall at a beefy 460cc’s. The sheer depth of the face is what makes this club look smaller than it actually is. It’s also the deepest face TaylorMade has ever produced, but were not exactly sure how many millimeters yet.

The new Taylormade Super Deep driver is setup to provide a medium trajectory, but it’s new MWT and FCT technology will allow for a total of 448 setup combinations. These combinations will allow you to alter the variable spin and variable launch. It’s also got 8WMT weights that will provide a total of 56 different center of gravity positions.

The Super Deep will come standard with the new Aldila R.I.P shaft that was selected and adjusted to feature a more tip stiff design, which helps maintain the launch angle through impact. It will be released to the public in March and available in 8.5, 9.5 and 10.5 lofts. Can’t wait to hit one! And we’ll let ya know when we do!

2010 PGA Show: Cobra Baffler Woods (Spy Pic)

Cobra Golf was at the PGA Show this year in full force. One of their newest product line-ups showcased was the Baffler Woods. The Baffler Woods will be based on Cobra’s popular Baffler Hybrid model, which features a design called the Baffler Rail F. This rail surface is at the bottom of the club-head and is said to create less club to ground contact. Cobra claims that this promotes better contact, which ultimately increases distance.

The new Cobra Baffler Woods are also wieghted similarly to the Baffler line by having added wieght at the bottom of the club to create greater swing speed. It also features a slightly larger head size compared to most fairway woods to allow for a bigger sweet-spot and better ball contact. We will be sure to update as more information comes out.

2010 PGA Show: SkyGolf SkyCaddie SGX

If your into golf and electronics, then you may need to check this out. SkyGolf released the new SkyCaddie SGX at the 2010 PGA Show and it makes some great strides at being more than just a simple GPS. The SGX is now part caddie.

This rangefinder uses a new technology called SmartClub that you put on the top of your grips. It allows the machine to identify the clubs without the need to enter them in manually. After a few practice sessions it will automatically learn your game and make club recommendations according to the specific situation and distance. So when you want to pull out what you think should be a 6 iron, the SGX will quietly remind you that your either crazy or simply mistaken about your abilities. Reaching that back of the green pin placement will take at least a 5 iron you goof, and the SGX isn’t afraid to tell you.

Another cool added feature to the new SkyCaddie SGX is the social networking golf data. You will be able to share your game stats, including scores, shot distance, and even what’s in your bag with friends, an instructorm or anyone else you wish to share with.

And if you don’t have an instructor, or opinionated friends that think they can help, the SGX has you covered. The ClubSG that stores your information online can suggest a pro that will help you fix that ugly mess of swing.

One last perk… You don’t have to tip the SkyCaddie a Grant(50 dollar bill) at the end of your round.

New Titleist 710 Irons 710MB – 710CB – 710AP2 Irons Images have been spotted and big props to Golf WRX for another great and exciting find for Titleist fans!

The Titleist 710MB is a their new muscle back blade design that appears to have mass reduced below the top line and repositioned closer to the sole. This appears to be an attempt to make it a more user friendly design with a more forgiveness in the hitting zone and perhaps even a slightly higher ball flight. It’s till a classic blade design very clean and simple so expect most of Titleist’s PGA players to be sporting this model on the big Tour. Forged 1020 carbon steel.

The new 2009 Titleist 710CB Forged Irons look pretty slick also with minimal offset a fairly thin sole and a good amount of perimeter weighting. The heel to toe doesnt look very long and overall the club has a compact feel with rounded accents implemented especially in it’s topline . Titleist did a great job with this 710 CB iron.

The Titleist 710 AP2 is the brand’s most forgiving forged cavity back design to become available in 2010. It looks fairly similar the the previous AP2 but this one was said to have a wider sole, longer heel to toe length while maintaining a fairly compact topline and overall profile among some other aesthetic changes.
