GolfToImpress.com: John Daly Loses Libel Lawsuit

johndalyLooks like John Daly just can't seem to catch a break anytime in the last, well, decade.  As you know, he most recently made his not-so-triumphant return to the PGA Tour.  Unfortunately for Daly, his golf wasn't up to the hype about his return and he failed to make a very decent sized splash in the playing field.  Not long after that, you might remember a few days back, John Daly actually was involved in an RV accident that involved not only himself and his RV, but also a tunnel and another man's car.  While we still don't know how THAT will end, we do know the man he allegedly hit is suing him for damages and possibly even injuries.

Daly Loses Libel Lawsuit

Well, if you're a John Daly fan, the hits just keep on coming as things went from bad to much, much worse.  In case you were not aware, Daly has recently been involved in a libel lawsuit against the The Florida Times-Union for comments he believed were untrue and defamatory in nature back in 2005.  The lawsuit was actually dismissed in March of this year, Duval County Circuit Judge Hugh Carithers ruling that the statements made by columnist Mike Freeman were either true, or constitutionally protected as his opinion.

$272,000 In Damages

Now, we find out what John Daly has to pay to settle the legal fees and losses by the Florida Times-Union throughout the trial.  Cue bad news:

"Judge Hugh Carithers ordered Daly to pay $263,088 in attorney's fees, plus costs of $8,675.99 and 8 percent interest rate per year until it is paid."

Turn It Around Daly

That's right, Daly is responsible for $272,000 in damages.  Yikes.  Hopefully things can turn around for Daly, he's been having an extremely rough patch as of late.  We're still rooting for his golf career, so stay tuned to see how things turn out.

The only difference between the 2009 TaylorMade R9 Hybrid and the 2009 TaylorMade R9 TP is MWT(Movable Weight Technology). The R9 TP has it, and the R9 does not.

GolfToImpress.com: First Round at Travelers Championship Sees Low Scores

boocamo-199x300jpgRound 1 is underway and while a great deal of the golfer's are already back in the clubhouse, having posted their first round scores, many are still grinding it out.  What that says to us is this:  the scores, which are already ridiculously low for the first round, are probably going to continue to fall!

Co-Leaders in at -7

As of right now, the leaders for the day is sitting in the clubhouse at an incredidbly impressive seven-under-par.  The leaders, Paul Goydos and Charles Warren, posted opening round 63's to blast the Travelers Championship course at the TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut and by the looks of things, there are some golfers that haven't even made the turn that are posting scores that are shockingly low.

Boo Weekley:  -6 through 6 Holes

One of those golfers, Boo Weekley, is just now passing through his 6th hole of the day and is already -6.  Yes, you heard right, he's birdied the first six holes he has faced and is only a stroke off the lead with twelve holes left to play in his opening round.  Can you say Wow?  Considering the fact that Weekley has played very little golf since his shoulder injury at The Players Championship back in May, this round is even more impressive.  He's on pace right now to beat the current single round course record which sits at a 61 and is shared by 4 other golfers.

Warren Believes 59 Will Be Shot

Even Charles Warren, co-leader at the moment, believes that this record will be beat.  He was quoted earlier as saying that he'd not be at all surprised if someone shot a 59 this week given the courses current conditions:  soft greens, great weather and slower rolling greens.  Will a 59 be posted?  Will someone go even lower?  If Boo Weekley keeps it up, it might just be him!

Tune in!

Tune in, we've said it 100 times but we'll say it again:  It's getting good!

GolfToImpress.com: Mickelson using Callaway PM Wedge Hybrid

Golf.com's David Dusek confirmed while speaking with Callaways lead designer Roger Cleveland that Phil Mickelson is using a new PM Prototype Hybrid this week at the U.S open.  Although its still in prototype phase Phil himself provided a lot of input in its build.

Previously Phil was using Callaway Golf's FT Hybrid off and on depending on the tournaments course venue.

Roger Cleveland did not divulge any specifics on the club, its design, or the technologies used but Mickleson did speak to reporters saying:

"This is a special club I actually made, taking the back part of the hybrid out so that I can open it way up and get through that thick rough."

Of course its far to early to confirm if this club will make it into retail release but it was still a great find by David Dusek and we felt is was worthy to report on.

It looks pretty good to me, very simple from what we can see from the small image, I can barely make out the word's Callaway & Prototype on it. By what Phil Mickleson is saying it appears the logic is somewhat similar to a wedge with trailing edge relief to help him open it up. That makes good sense if you plan on being in the rough a lot.

New pictures of the Mizuno MP-68 are begining to surface. It seems like it will be a mix between the MP-14 and the MP-32. It also has a small and hard to see channel in the cavity behind the Mizuno logo. Overall it looks like another solid semi-blade. As always we will keep you updated as more information is released.

"Evidently, Wally, an eight month old Rottweiler, thought the small white balls were treats, and gobbled them up."

The dog regurgitated 3 of them in the yard, which is how the owners discovered there was a problem. When they took the dog to the vet, they discovered 5 more in his stomach.

Tiger Woods has been spotted court-side at many important Magic games this season, but he has almost always been alone. Yesterday, Game 4 of the Finals was one of the first games he has been seen with his wife Elin.

Other celeb's that were spotted at the game include Chris Brown and Rihanna (sitting on opposite ends of the court) - and retired wrestler Hulk Hogan.

Hogan was also seen introducing himself to Tiger before the game.

"In an awkward meeting, Hogan stunned Woods just before the game when he went up to greet the world's No. 1-ranked golfer, who at first didn't see the towering figure standing in front of his courtside seat."
